Seeking Presenters for
our Monthly Cooking Demonstrations
  

 

The Monthly Cooking Demonstrations is one of the City of Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department’s Cultural Services ongoing educational programs at the Galván House which offer a new perspective on food preparation and presentation. Attendees learn and experience alternative preparation styles and techniques as well as new ways to present the wide variety of cultural cuisine. The demonstrations round off with sampling the prepared food and given recipe cards.

The Galván House is a cultural center which provides a variety of programs throughout the year to enrich the lives of our culturally diverse community.

The Cultural Services is seeking chefs, cooks and individuals interested in presenting cooking demonstrations for the general public. The demonstrations are held on the second Wednesday of each month from 10:30am – 12:00pm at the Galván House in Heritage Park. On the average, 25 to 30 people attend these demonstrations and presenters are welcome to bring materials to help promote their business. Past demonstrations have featured the following wide variety of cultural cuisine: German, Jewish, Mexican, French, Native American, Chinese, Cajun and many others. The program expanded to include alternative, health conscience, and vegetarian dishes, which are also crowd favorites.

 

We would like to build on the success of this program and make it available to a greater audience by providing cooking demonstrations on one Saturday of each month.

 

While the Cultural Center provides up to fifty dollars reimbursement for expenses relating to the demonstration, presenters volunteer their time and cooking expertise for this program. All proceeds from the cooking demonstration go towards the restoration of the homes of Heritage Park. The cooking demonstration provides a great opportunity for presenters to promote specialty dishes. Furthermore, the reputation and goodwill of the presenters stand to benefit as a result of the participation in this program by offering this unique community service.

The Cultural Center is located in the Galván House in Heritage Park at 1581 N. Chaparral. Hours of operation are Tuesday–Thursday, 9am–5pm, Friday 9am–2pm, Saturday 11am–2pm.
