DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FUNDED BY TPW
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI AWARDED
$500,000 Boat Ramp Grant
FROM TEXAS PARKS & WILDLIFE

On January 22, 2009, the Texas Parks & Wildlife Commission announced that the City of Corpus Christi has been awarded a Boat Ramp Grant for $500,000, 75 percent of the total project cost. Corpus Christi was one of 13 cities to receive funding from TPW for boat ramp projects and it was ranked high on the priority list.

Construction for this grant will be to renovate/improve the two-lane Billing’s Boat Ramp which provides access to the Laguna Madre and the Intracoastal Waterway. This grant funding will also include improvements to the parking area, courtesy dock, bulkhead and signs.

Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation officials expect these improvements will help local boaters and attract more visitors to the city by providing greater access to the area for boating, fishing and special events.

RIBBON CUTTING OF THE
West Guth Park Trail

Corpus Christi Mayor Henry Garrett will join representatives of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and other local officials to officially open the reconstruction and expanded trail at West Guth Park. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on September 25, 2008 at West Guth Park, 9700 Up River Road.

This trail project was made possible through a $100,000 grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to create new and maintain existing recreational trails. The concrete trail now totals 1.3 miles, of which half that distance is the new portion. And as part of our effort to “go green” and enhance the park trail, new additions will also include benches made of recycled plastic. Visitors can also learn about the park as well as the health benefits of the hike and bike trail.

We hope these latest enhancements will create a place to socialize with family and friends, a natural environment to encourage a healthy lifestyle (walking, running, cycling), or a place to simply relax and enjoy the day.

Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department officials say the new improvements will serve to enrich the quality of life of the members in our community. Everyone is invited to celebrate the completion of the new trail. Remember to bring your walking shoes. Parking will be available at the Northwest Senior Center, which is adjacent to the park.

We invite you to PLAY EVERY DAY!
